What is the BD PhaSeal™ Optima System?
A closed system drug transfer device (CSTD) that has been demonstrated to prevent exposure to hazardous drugs, from drug preparation to IV administration and disposal.
Innovation to Protect Healthcare Workers
About 8 million U.S. healthcare workers are potentially exposed to hazardous drugs, including pharmacists, nursing personnel, physicians…1
1- HAZARDOUS DRUG EXPOSURES IN HEALTHCARE, NIOSH,2020
Pharmacists and nurses who handle antineoplastic drugs show a 2.5-fold increase in total chromosomal aberrations (CAs), with up to a 5-fold increase in certain CA types1,2
Three consecutive head nurses handling cytostatic agents had liver damage.5
Nurses who handle cancer drugs have children with 70% more birth defects and have a 14% higher risk of miscarriage.6
This includes relative risk of leukemia increases for oncology nurses.3 , and a 2.8-times increase in non-melanoma skin cancer and a 3.7-times increase in non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in pharmacy techs4
Handling cytostatic drugs was associated with malformations in offspring.7
